Born in Antwerp brings, together with Rizon Parein, European's largest design festival in the port city
Renowned 3D designer and curator of Born in Antwerp Rizon Parein brings the biggest design festival in Europe to Antwerp this autumn. On the 22nd, 23rd and 24th of September, Antwerp will become the international mecca for design and creativity. In addition to keynotes given by roaring names in the design world, you will also find demos, workshops, book stands and markets. A three day long inspiring extravaganza!
Rizon Parein brings gamechanger OFFF to Antwerp
With the thematic year 'Born in Antwerp', the City of Antwerp puts Antwerp creative talent in the spotlights this year. Five key figures from the Antwerp creative sector support this ambitious project.
Among them, 3D designer and graphic artist Rizon Parein who wanted to bring the design festival OFFF from Barcelona to his city. "The festival in Barcelona has opened doors for me as a young designer. I want to bring this energy to Antwerp. We want OFFF by night to really be a gamechanger for young designers and entrepreneurs in Belgium", explains Parein.
Heroes from every discipline
At the end of September, during this three-day festival you get the chance to learn from the crème de la crème of the design world. More than 20 world-renowned creatives will give inspiring keynotes touching upon the latest in graphic design, web design, motion design and art.
Born in Antwerp curator Rizon Parein is extremely excited about the line-up: "With Tyrsa, Craig & Karl, Hort, Lernert & Sander and many others we really managed to bring together some big names". Lernert & Sander came up with the wildly popular clip "Manon" of the Dutch band De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig. Tyrsa is the artist behind the tattoos of Zlatan Ibrahimovic made for the impressive campaign of the World Food Programme. Director Kurt De Leijer and DJ Lefto are presenting their new documentary series for Canvas. Michael Spoljaric, the creative director of the brand NIKE Global will also give a speech.
OFFF is made for the curious
But that is not all! Unlike the festival in Barcelona, OFFF by night will take place in the evening from 4pm till midnight. A conscious choice says Parein: "After an agreement with OFFF Barcelona, we quickly grew the ambition to give our own identity to the event. That's why we choose to bring more than just keynotes. We want to give visitors a profound experience, let them taste the energy of the festival. For this OFFF by night, we took inspiration from concepts like Brooklyn NightBazaar. You can see it as a night out, but with a twist". This new approach will not only attract design lovers and professionals, but also people who want a fun and innovative night out in the port city. Moreover, OFFF by night is also putting local design studios and creative entrepreneurs like Tom Galle and Cedric English (Roundhouse and Hermanos Inglesos) in the picture with a Q&A stage. You have a question? Don't be shy!
What does the ideal OFFF by night-evening looks like? You listen to a keynote speaker, after following a demonstration or workshop and before finally meeting those international artists that you've been following on Instagram! Get a whiff of all that creativity in the air! Fancy a snack? Or need a new book? MARTA market presents a special edition. They bring out the best in local food and drinks, book shops and local streetwear brands. You wander from food stalls to book stands with a pork belly sandwich in your hand while acquiring the latest work made by the most famous designers in the world. "Overall OFFF by night is for anyone who wants to learn, participate, and especially for anyone who wants to be inspired by creativity. OFFF is made for the curious ".
And if that was not enough, the festival is also a lot cheaper than most festivals of its kind. A combi-ticket will cost €110.
